There's  a kid outside Green Bay named Noah VanVooren, who's 18 and has Down syndrome. Back in October, his high school football team let him suit up, and he scored a touchdown.  Now he's in the news again, because he just got into Edgewood College in Madison as part of its "Cutting Edge" program, which is for students with disabilities. There is something about this kid and this video that just makes you smile!

A listener sent this pic in from their office downtown. Yes ladies and gentlemen this screen is that big. It's a 4k (top of the line) screen and is one of the biggest of it's kind. This will change your derby experience for the better.

So I got the awesome opportunity to sit down with Betty Who and ask her some questions on where she finds inspiration, why her fanbase is so important to her, and how she wrote "Somebody Loves You." She's a super-fun, upcoming artist and her music is perfect for blasting on a cool spring day. Enjoy!

1. You’ve got your “Who Crew” and regularly bring fans on
stage with you during shows. Why is it so important to you to connect with your fan base?
I think more than anything, my fans are so cool.  I love meeting them and spending time with them because all of them are people that I would hang out with!  Some of my closest friends now are actually people that I met really early on in my career who had heard my EP before anybody else had and were like “you and I were meant to be friends I just know it."
2. What excites you each day? Where do you find your inspiration?
I’m lucky enough to be on tour with a group of incredibly sweet, silly, hysterical people.  They help me keep going and make me laugh and inspire me to do better every day.  That of course and all my friends and family at home texting and calling, reminding how loved I am and, equally, how much I love them.
3. You’re a symbol for the Human Rights Campaign and “Somebody Loves You” was
used in the Home Depot Proposal video that went viral, which I’m sure you saw.
Why is it important to you to be that icon?
I grew up in an environment where being exactly who you are was exactly how you were supposed to be.  I have always known without a shadow of a doubt that a person should be able to love who they want to love and to live without judgment or hate.  I don’t think I woke up one day and said “I want to be an icon,” I think this cause found me and empowered me and moved me so much that I had to speak up and be a face for it.
4. Why do you think it was important to make sure fans know that somebody loves
them? Who was the “somebody” that you wrote that song about?
I know what it feels like to wake up and not look forward to the day because you think no one even cares that you exist.  But you grow and you learn to love yourself a little more and you realize that there are so many people who care about you and love you and hope that you’re safe and okay.  I’ve known people who I wanted to just hold and say “everything is probably going to be fine”.
5. “Somebody Loves You” is one of my favorite songs to turn all the way up, roll my
windows down, and belt out at the top of my lungs. What song is your favorite to
jam to right now?
I scream nonsensical lyrics to “Girls” by The 1975 like it’s my job.

Here's her video for "Somebody Loves You:"

Aaaaand, here's the super adorable Home Depot proposal video with "Somebody Loves You" that went viral:
