"The Monuments Men"
Seeing this movie was a wonderful way to spend two hours on a cold, snowy Sunday afternoon. It’s one of those feel-good, make-you-smile kind of movies. Plus it stars George Clooney and that’s almost always a good thing. The rest of the cast includes some other heavy-hitters like Matt Damon, Bill Murray and John Goodman. “Monuments Men” is based on a true story from World War II when a group of art historians, architects and museum directors were commissioned to go to Europe to retrieve and save artwork that had been stolen by the Nazi’s. These men, not typical soldiers, went through basic training, put on uniforms and ended up on the European front in the final months of WWII. Their accomplishments are really quite amazing and their adventures memorable. The cast has great chemistry, the story is compelling. You will laugh, maybe cry a little, but it is an uplifting film that will make you proud of the accomplishments of some very brave Americans. It was time well-spent on a Sunday afternoon. (It’s rated PG-13 and I think that’s accurate. Fine for middle school and up.)
