Before I went to see Sister Act the Musical, the first question I had (I’m sure you’re thinking it too) is, “How close to the movie is the musical?” The show itself is the same basic story you know from the movie with a few minor additions including a romance between Eddie (the police officer) and Deloris but all your favorite nuns are there with some very funny one liners along with some great banter between Deloris and Mother Superior. Their back and forth was one of the best parts of the whole show. Very quick and the two actresses had great chemistry. Now I will say that some of the jokes were a bit corny but given the nature of the show, nuns in sequins, I'm sure they can be forgiven.
The music in the show is very upbeat and catchy and by changing the timing of the story to the 70’s it allowed them to add some extra funk to the song and dance numbers which was great. Bottom line if you go to this show and you’re not dancing in your seat or at least tapping your feet to the music then you should check your pulse because you must be dead. If you liked the movie you will love this show.
