Imagine a salon where there were no cuts and color. Hard to imagine? How about this...how about a salon where all you had to do was run in and they would give you a blow out, style your hair, do your make-up and send you on your way?! THEY DO EXIST! First in NYC, LA, and Chicago and now right here in Louisville! Check it out!
LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - It's a beauty trend popular in big cities like New York, Chicago and L.A. and now it has arrived in Louisville. Known as Blowout Bars, they are hair salons, but they don't do hair cuts or color.
So what's the attraction? It's a quick way to look your best when you don't need or can't get into a full service salon.
In St. Matthews Wednesday, Shannon Kessler, a Louisville mother, opened Primp Style Lounge -- the first blowout lounge to offer only hair styling and make-up. The grand opening proves the old saying, the higher the hair, the closer to God isn't just a Texas thing.
For Kessler the shop she opened in Chenoweth Square has been a dream, one she realized after having a blowout experience in San Francisco.
"I loved it," she said. "My hair looked great for three days and I came home and I was super excited and I told my husband that I really wanted to do this."
For $35 clients can get a shampoo and a blowout, or for other prices --some lower and higher – customers can choose other styles like a posh ponytail called The Lucky.
Client Jenny Patterson chose that one. "With being my age, I'm in my mid 20's, I have a lot of weddings to go to," she said.
Tina Sexton got The Allure, for a different reason.
"I have three kids, so fixing my hair is sometimes out of the question and this makes for a nice little get out of the house, get your hair done," she said. "I kind of get refreshed and then kind of get back to life real quick."
While several full service salons also offer blowouts, the advantage of a Blowout Bar is no appointment is necessary.
Kessler said, "You can walk in and we love that because a lot of people have great relationships with their current hair stylists, but a lot of hair stylists book up very quickly."
Client Meghan Tinker said, "The convenience of not having to have an appointment is you just pop in and give yourself a little treat."
Neighboring businesses In Chenoweth Square, like Three Dog Bakery, welcome more of their female customer base coming around.
The Bakery's owner Shelby Simpson said of the shopping center and its latest offering, "We're a little off the beaten path, but a lot of women shop here there's an exercise place, there's us, there's several women's clothing stores, shoe stores, so it's very female centric."
Even though appointments for Primp aren't required if you are planning a special night out or will be pressed for time they are encouraged.
